Two types of beachfront accommodation are available at "Adrift"- our fully self-contained luxury cottages and our self-contained studio. All accommodations look out over Golden Bay. Cottage 1, 2 and 3 and our studio are all roughly 30 metres from our private, safe, sandy beach. Cottages 4 and 5 are 50 metres further inland. View our beachfront retreat site plan.Careful planning and landscaping has maintained guest privacy in each accommodation; each unit has its own path down to the beach, except the two rear cottages which share a path.All accommodations are serviced daily.
COTTAGES:
We have five holiday cottages; Cottages 1 and 2 which opened in December 2005, Cottage 3 in December 2006 and Cottages 4 and 5 opened in December 2007.
All the cottages are of the same design and have the same facilities.
They are designed as a luxurious accommodation for two people but with the addition of a double bed-sofa in the living room can cater for three people.
Privacy has been a major design consideration, with this in mind, the cottages have no side windows, each deck is screened from the deck of the adjacent cottage and the rear of each cottage has a private courtyard.
Each cottage has one bedroom with a split-king bed which faces out to the beach.
The spacious open-plan living room has bi-fold doors which open to join the living room and deck.
LCD Television, DVD player and Ipod/ MP3 docking station/ speakers.
The kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave, fridge and gas hob.
They have a large indoor floor area (45 square metres) plus a (20 sq. metre) outdoor deck which overlooks the beach and a enclosed courtyard (37 sq. metres) at the rear, giving you more than 100 square metres (1000 sq.ft) of personal space in each cottage. View our beachfront cottages floor plan.
The floors are solid Eucalyptus; the ceilings have exposed Douglas Fir rafters. The ceilings themselves are Lawson Cyprus, which give off a beautiful fragrance. All woods are plantation grown- we have avoided using native timbers -see our "Environment� section on our website.
Each of the front cottages has it's own path down our private, sandy beach, the rear cottages share a separate path.
The bathrooms all have a luxury, double, hydrotherapy spa bath (18-jet), shower, heated towel rail and under-floor heating.
All cottages have unlimited hot water and are well insulated (4 and 5 are double glazed). Cottages 3, 4 and 5 have gas heat, cottages 1 and 2 are electrically heated. All heating has been chosen to be totally silent in operation so as not to distract from natural, restful sounds of the birds, waves and flowing stream.
Quality linen including 4 towels per person and bath robes.
Included in the price is a daily breakfast hamper of provisions for either a continental or a cooked breakfast.
CHOOSING YOUR COTTAGE:
All the cottages are the same design and size.All have views over the beach and Golden Bay and the deck of each cottage gets the sun from sunrise or early morning to mid afternoon. The view of the beach from cottage 4 and 5 is excellent but a little more restricted than the view from the front cottages.

They are built on the opposite banks of a small stream where it flows out onto the beach and are therefore quite private from one another and from our house and the Studio. Cottage 4 and 5 elevated for a good view of the water and are nestled on each side of the spring-fed, year-round stream which runs through the property.You can view which cottages are available for the dates you would like to stay on the on-line booking page.
STUDIO:-
A self-contained, purpose built addition to our home, opened in January 2003 but refurbished October 2009. Our studio accommodation has the following features:
Comfortable, tastefully decorated studio (25 square metres)A polished hardwood floor and hand-crafted, locally-made furniture.Fully equipped, handicap accessible.
Super-king bed, specially designed and locally crafted to not only be comfortable, but to allow a good view out to sea so you can watch the sun rise over Golden Bay!
Bed converts to two full-size single beds if necessary.
The Studio is electrically heated so as not to distract from natural, restful sounds of the birds, waves and flowing stream.Our Studio caters for up to two people only.
A tiled ensuite bathroom with a thermostatically-controlled shower, heated towel rail, bathroom heater and quality fixtures.
Private entrance and deck (16 square metres).
Original art works.
"Quiet zone" sound insulated walls.
Television and fridge.
Tea and coffee making facilities.
Daily room service.
Quality linen including 4 towels per person.
Included in the price is a daily breakfast hamper of provisions for a continental breakfast.

In-room broadband internet service (Wi-Fi hotspot) is available via satellite (free for e-mails etc, charges may apply for downloads or extended use).
To enable you to enjoy our wonderful outdoor surroundings and sunny climate (Nelson area has the highest sunshine hours in New Zealand) we also have at no extra charge.
An outdoor gas barbecue for each accommodation.
Single and double Kayaks (canoes) for you to enjoy our sheltered waters.
Rural setting on our 10 acre farm which includes the beach right down to the high tide mark.
Quiet; the nearest public road is 1 km away and the beach is deserted for most of the year.
Non-smoking, but guests may smoke outdoors.

WOW! I'm so glad I chanced upon your place amongst the many available in Golden Bay from what I've seen, I couldn't have picked better. WONDERFUL setting, gorgeous lilies, comfortable bed, delicious homemade granola and fruit, friendly, interesting and relaxed hosts � I'm just afraid that the next time I try to book, you'll tell me the waiting list is a mile long!
