Golden Bay has an amazing variety of restaurants and cafes; ethnic, seafood, gourmet, Kiwi and health food.
We are very fortunate that just 3 Km from Adrift is the Mussel
Inn one of New Zealand's most famous cafes, small brewery and music venues. It is known for its unique atmosphere, world-class, home-brewed beers and a wide variety of visiting musicians from folk to rock.
The Naked Possum, 20 minutes north of Adrift, is another unique rural cafe with a great daytime menu and an outdoor spit roast some evenings.
The Farewell Spit Cafe and Visitors Centre, 30 minutes north of Adrift, at the base of Farewell Spit has possibly one of the most stunning views of any cafe in New Zealand.
Anatoki Salmon is unique in that you can catch your own fish and have it prepared and hot-smoked for you while you wait.
In Takaka, 18 km to the south of Adrift there are at least 10 places to eat from take-away cafes to restaurants.
Collingwood, 12 km north has 4 cafes plus a bakery and is the home of Rosy Glow Chocolates.
Pohara, in the southern part of Golden Bay has 5-6 eateries, two of which have fixed evening menus.
There are also several excellent rural cafes and restaurants scattered throughout Golden Bay.
Our central location makes it possible to drive to almost all of these eateries in 30 minutes or less.
For our guests wanting to self-cater on the BBQ's provided with each accommodation or in the well-equipped kitchens (cottages only), there is a large, well stocked, supermarket in Takaka which is open 7 days a week, from 8am to 8pm during the summer and a smaller general store in Collingwood.
